Fortunately the shop was able to source a brand new GT-40.

Heard back from the shop the other day. They were able to get the engine running but two cylinders were not firing and a spark plug was cross threaded. So as suspected the engine is trash. Transmission also is shot but we've given the go ahead and it should have a new engine and transmission in two weeks!

This just doesn't make sense to me. Two cylinders weren't firing: OK, that's an ignition problem One spark plug was cross threaded: That can be fixed. They can drill out the threads, tap it, and then thread in an adapter.

Just because that engine has "4-digit hours on it" doesn't mean it's trash. I drove an 80's Nautique from a ski school that had 8000 hours on it. That boat ran as strong as a new one.

There's nothing wrong with going with new, I just don't understand why they think this engine is trash.

Understand where you are coming from. But to us financially it makes more sense to spend the extra ~$2k to have a zero hour motor and transmission, which includes a two year warranty, especially when it comes to resale value.

Oh OK. Well that's different then. It's not that the old motor is trash, you're just making the decision to go with new. Thanks!

I wonder where they found a brand new GT-40? Those have been out of production for quite some time at this point, no? In any case, great progress!

Been super busy recently but a lot has happened! Boat is back and running with a Jasper re manufactured GT-40. It is all stock except for an upgraded transmission and a satellite Perfect Pass. Put 7 or 8 hours on it in Texas before being trailer-ed back to New Jersey. Replaced the steering and throttle cables, which yielded a huge improvement for the steering but not as much for the throttle. We will most likely be replacing the whole throttle assembly in the future. But for now the boat is winterized in NJ, getting quotes for the upholstery to get done during the winter, so by spring she should be ready to go!

That's great progress! Looking forward to seeing this thing nice and shiny again, it seems like you started at a good price point. In the end, you'll probably be way ahead of where you'd be with a $15k boat like this with 1000 hours and old upholstery.

Not sure where you are located in NJ but Rick at Richards Trimworks in Upper Greenwood lake does good work and his prices are really good.

ID:	549404 Just picked up the new upholstery! There are some small wrinkles that should come out with some sun. Looking forward to getting it into the boat but there is more to be done before that happens. Plan to buff the interior and install a speaker system.

How did you get the bow side upholstery off? I've tried to reach up and gain access to the nuts but, there isn't enough contorting I could do to reach any of them.

Looks great. Just curious why you trailer your boat all the way from Texas to NJ. Is this your second home or something? Seems a long way to trailer a boat.

Have been super busy and haven't had the time to post an update, but a lot has been done! Boat is basically finished, interior, speakers, and tower speakers are all in. Just need to install the subwoofer and it will be complete. Plan to install a JL Audio infinite baffle on the left side of the walk through and seal the gaps in the fold up seat. We have put about 26 hours on it changing the oil this weekend for the 25 hour service.

Everything is running smoothly, engine timing seems to be off slightly which will be addressed towards the end of the season. We are having one main issue with the Stargazer GPS Perfect Pass. It will continuously turn on and off and flash the loading screen with a really annoying beep. We spoke to the engine installer and they said it is due to low voltage but we have a dual battery set up with a cranking and deep cycle battery. If anyone has any idea of where to start to check the wiring on it that would be greatly appreciated.

The interior was done by CNS Marine in New Jersey, they redid all of the foam as well.

We were able to reach up and get to the screws, this wasn't the first time the upholstery has been removed so there could have been screws missing.

The boat was purchased from the Baylor Wakeboarding team and trailered back to our house in New Jersey

I have heard a couple different things about this but the solution seems to be the same. You need to increase your ground line and possibly run a dedicated power line to the PP.
Search the ccfan forums and you will see this issue often. This year was known for grounding and power issues in the dash.
