    GS20 Gel Coat Cracks

I'm quite concerned about a couple of fiberglass cracks that I discovered near the front edge of the engine compartment/storage compartment on the port side. The attached pictures show the overall area (IMG_0913), and a crack at the engine compartment (IMG_0914) (you can also see the storage compartment crack in the lower left in this photo). And the whole length of the storage compartment crack (IMG_0915 and IMG_0920).

Has anyone else seen this? We did a lot of slalom skiing through the course this summer and my hunch is that the forces on the slalom pole may be a contributor. I have advised my dealer and am waiting to see what can be done about this. Click image for larger version

Its very disturbing the amount of quality issues that have been posted in the last few years. Is it that they cant keep up with the high demand and mistakes and flaws are being pushed out for the dealer to handle. I paid less than half of the cost of a GS for my 08 210 . It just turned 1000 hours and with the exception of vinyl seam splits it has been pretty much flawless there are NO gel cracks. I guess with Malibu production comes Malibu fit finish and quality issues.

That is concerning. I haven't noticed any gel cracks on my GS20, but there are a couple places on my boat where the gel finish is very rippled and even a couple very small places where there is no gel coat at all. I plan on having these issues addressed under warranty during the off season.

I have a GS20 with 93 hours. Zero cracks and no flaws. I hope they fix this for you hassle free and find the cause. I have pulled pro level slalom skiers and the occasional tuber (sorry) on the pole. No problems.

I also found that the port side storage compartment door would sometimes pop open. Did you guys ever experience that?

All those LEAN processes that Nautique has implemented. Remember the days where CC bragged about the gelcoat and vinyl thickness. Those days are gone.

Mine have never done that. In fact, they are difficult to open for our eight year olds because the peg and grommet or whatever you call that closure mechanism is so tight.
