G21 343 tranmission filter

Why am I having such a tough time finding a transmission filter for this boat? I did a search here and on google and can't find it?

Anyone have a link?

Also, how many quarts usually in the tranny? Will a gallon of Dex III be enough? thanks in advance.

I have never heard of a transmission filter on a PCM transmission.

Your transmission should be maintenance-free, according to PCM.

If you do change the fluid, it sounds like you need Mobiltrans SHC 50.

My bad. I just assumed there was a tranny filter. That explains why I can't find it. My Ilmor had a tranny filter and that was my last boat that I worked on the tranny.

Can I ask this NautiqueJeff , does this go for the tranny fluid as well? It takes Dex III ATF. Do you guys normally change the Dex III or just inspect that too?

I read the manual cover to cover. It doesn't really help much for my question. On one hand it says maintenance free. On the other it says replace. Average manual at best.

The V-drive is supposed to be maintenance free. Just inspect the oil yearly. If it looks contaminated i.e. milky or cloudy change it. You can only get the V-drive oil from a PCM dealer or Nautique Parts and I will warn you its about $30/quart. MobilTrans SHC 50 is impossible to find, at least it was for me. I'm not even sure Mobil still makes it. Your v-drive will take somewhere about 1.5 quarts.

The transmission takes Dexron III or IV. (Dexron IV replaced Dexron III) Tranny fluid should probably be changed once a year. My 1.48:1 tranny supposedly takes 2 quarts, but it never takes 2 full quarts, probably because I never get all of the old fluid out.

Yep. I don't do anything on the V-drive. The transmission fluid I change every 100 hours. I just draw it out with my oil extractor and refill it with Dexron IV. Brand isn't important. Whatever they have at the auto parts store.

For the most part i agree with eveningshade. I would definitely check the vdrive it once or twice a year to be sure it is clear and not milky. Even though it calls for synthetic 50 weight - you didn't hear it from me but in a pinch i am sure you can top off with a non-synthetic 50 weight such as Valvoline makes for $6.49 a quart. I guarantee you won't live long enough to see the effects of a difference between synthetic and non-synthetic 50 weight for a few ounces topping off...And if you are going to over-maintain and change every 300 or 400 hours since it does not call for any maintenance anyway, I am sure you can use conventional 50 weight.

It looks like pcm doesn't really have a maintenance schedule on the tranny...I would probably check it few times a year to be sure full, and change at 200 or 300 hours.

I use whatever brand they have at the auto parts store. Usually they have Castrol.
