    • 2001 Ski Nautique 196

    2001 196 won't turn right off plane.

My 2001 196 is used almost exclusively as a slalom tug on a private lake. The boat skis and tracks great. Steering cable is free and steering is smooth.

My only complaint is when sitting the skier down at the end of the lake the boat doesn't respond to steering input to the right when coming off of plane. Normally I throttle back to idle, not neutral, and make a slight right turn as the boat is slowing down to loop around the skier. This works in all other boats I drive. At idle the boat doesn't respond at all until it's completely off plane. With the throttle just above idle the boat turns as I would expect. A buddies 2003 196 behaves much the same.

If it were just me driving I'd live with it, but it can be a bit sketchy with new drivers when the boat doesn't turn like they expect it to Our lakes are pretty short and we use every foot when dropping the skier. I warn drivers new to my boat on their first set behind the wheel and it usually works out ok but I'd like to fix this if possible.

    Any ideas?
