    502 python water in oil

looks like our 99 502 python engine is no good. lots of water in oil. Is it better just to repower with new long block or should i repower with something completely new with like a 383? would appreciate any advice. thanks

Well the first thing you should do is figure out what's wrong. It could just be a cracked head which isn't a terribly expensive repair. Get it to an engine specialist and figure out what problem you're chasing.

+I With charles there are a lot of ways water can get into the oil . It might be your exhaust manifold . It would be a costly mistake to find out the long block didn't fix the problem.

A long block python will run you around 8k. Rebuilding yours should be a lot less of course. Not putting a python back in a python boat would not work. The engine cradle (aluminum frame for engine) is too narrow for a small block with out some fabrication. Read more money. You are safer fixing what you have.

Big block vs small block stringer configuration is unchanged. The cradle is likely to need engine mount tabs relocated for such a change but the width is the same.

In car applications big block and small block chevies are interchangeable bolt in items with the correct mounts.
Not to Say all ancillary items boot in too. AC lines.
And that something doesn’t conflict with the big block as it should is much larger.

They also share bell housing pattern too.
