    Reskinning Comming Pads

First I want to thank Christine's for my wonderful skins....probably one of the last off the line....I hope you heal well and quickly, and thanks for your dedication to our interiors!

    Question to to the forum....

    1) what tricks have you used or learned when changing comming pad skins?

    2) what is the best way to install the speakers in the new pads?

Does anyone have a video of them installing the skins?

    Thanks in advance!
    Otto

If you are installing the speakers in front of the pads then I have a post with some pics detailing how I did it using plastic speaker rings off Amazon.

Let me know if you have any questions

I agree one good video would really help us put the skins on properly and make them look the best they can look. Is there anybody out there that can submit pictures/videos and or a narrative?

Wait for Blamey to post his. I think it was him and it turned out really nice. I'm doing the same thing this off season but haven't gotten to it yet.

This is my post discussing how I did the speakers. I used the same process when I replaced the skins later but didn't take photos.

I did replace my skins but don't have too many photos. C&S Marine (The new Christine's) has a good setup of instructions so read those. Sail rite also some good videos installing boat upholstery.

The process is fairly easy and if you copy the old skin you can figure most of it out.

My advice would be the following.
            - Remove the skin only from the piece you are doing next.
            - Try remove and replace the skin on the same day. Take lots of pictures as you remove the old skin so you can copy the install.
            - Try and rough fit the piece first with a few staples. Some pieces may seem like they don't fit but you can stretch warm vinyl pretty good.
            - Only work in a warm room (80F), use a fan to heat the vinyl.
            - Start with flat pieces first, they are easier.
            - Don't be afraid to take some pieces to a pro to do. They have tools and experience to complete what you can't. I had a pro do the pieces with an inside curve (like the rear seat below).
            - Be careful any time you have to cut the vinyl, make sure you don't cut took much. (I made 2 mistakes).
            - Make sure the piping is in the right place. Getting this wrong, really shows when the piece is fitted in the boat. Pieces that looked good out of the boat didn't look that good once fitted.

I sometime wonder if I'd do this again. it is a lot of time and money and a pro can probably install a full boat for about $1000 and make it look much better. My local upholsterer will make and install the skins for about the same cost as Christine's/C&M will charge for a skin but he can not get the exact match on the vinyl colors or do the logo's.

The boat did look great once done. I don't have many pics of the completed boat as I sold the boat the day I finished the install. Here are a few of the pics I do have.

I did an entire 02 SAN kit. Biggest help equipment wise was investing in a “long nose” pneumatic upholstery stapler. The regular short reach staplers are a pain to get invetween the foam (if your doing seat bases that have leather anchors) or where your trying to staple upholstry over the speaker rings and attaching the vinyl inside the base of the ring.
