Hi. Thanks for the info. Are the bearings really bushings? Bushing would have no moving parts. Sorry just trying to picture this. And thought I’d do this at the same time as the steering cable in my 2001.

If you still have the bearings I’d love them if you think they’d fit my 2001. Thank you!!!

yes they are just polymer bushings. Pull up the part on Graingers and have a look. I'm pretty sure we have the same helm.

I received the parts from Grainger last night. They are freakin perfect!!! All ya need to do is trim one down about 1/8" and you're good to go. The original bushings are too short and leave a section of shaft that is without a bearing... so I trimmed one just enough to allow everything to go back together. Make sure to replace both bearings... just remove the top snap ring and pull the shaft out through the bottom and you'll figure it out. You get 5 bearings per pack. I have 3 left over if someone wants me to mail a couple let me know✌️
Go to Grainger.com I wish I hadn't installed a new helm... the parts were around $15 shipped vs $180 for a new helm

IGUSPolymer Flanged Clip Bearing with 3/4" Inside Dia. and 13/16" Outside Dia.

Maybe this (a few pics) will help? There appears to be a second set too of similar (different size) of bushings on the horizontal (tilt) axle of the helm. Mine seemed perfectly tight. Ordered my bushings via Amazon Prime.

Still a bit of play...it seems like the splines are worn, not sure if it’s the shaft or the wheel hub...I’ll see how it drives in a few weeks and go from there.

When the steering gets stiff, it there any potential that the cable breaks before it is replaced.
