    Are you sure that small hose is actually a hose? It looks like it could be a wire (hard to say - gets blurry when I zoom) - maybe a water temperature sensor? I would say the blue hose off the pressure side is for your shaft seal most likely.

      Here's a closer look - I think you may be right about the temp sensor! I have two, I think - one that shows up in the Perfect Pass gauge and one that shows on the tach or speedo, I can't remember which. One is never accurate. Hmm..... I like your theory of that being a wire.

        I agree that’s a water temp sensor. Way too small to be a fluid hose.

          Awesome. I guess I figured the dripless didn't need much, but yeah, that black thing has to be a wire. It would be too fragile for water, or too small and easily clogged.

              Yea, with those other pictures, I can say with 99% certainty, that it's a sensor. Any hose on a compression fitting like that would be centered out of the compression nut. you can see the wire's off to the side, which means it's just coming out of the back of a potted sensor, and the compression nut is just keeping the seal at the sensor face. I don't know that I've ever seen a water temp sensor there, but it makes sense if someone didn't want to punch in a through-hull.

                I can't say I've seen a sensor there, either. I wonder if it was added when the perfect pass was converted to GPS by the previous owner, negating the need for a paddlewheel. So that would explain why the water temp never reads right on one of the displays, if it's reading from a disconnected sensor or one that's just loose in the bilge somewhere.

                In fact, now that I think about it, it's the perfect pass display that shows the correct temp, so that is likely the temp sensor that feeds to the PP.

                I also talked to a friend who is a marine tech, who said "eh, don't worry about whatever comes out of that little hose when winterizing, it's not enough to be a problem." Sounds good to me. The only real concern is non-tox a/f going all over the ground, but some does anyway when it comes out the exhaust.

                Now I need to relocate the strainer for next year so it's easier to reach to empty it, and maybe put in a T after that so I can hook up a bucket of pink stuff and run the engine that way - rather than dumping it into a hose with a funnel again.
