    Repairing a soft trailer step

I have a 1996 Correct Craft trailer that the steps on each side are getting soft on due to the plywood rotting. I was wondering what others have used to make this repair. The plywood and carpet again? It seems to hold a lot of water that is also causing the frame to rust where the carpet makes contact. Maybe spacing the plywood from the frame would help. Has anyone used diamond plate or other material? Thanks.

I know Grant has done some replacement work on his trailer. I think I've seen some posts elsewhere that folks have used diamond plate, too.

    Check Grant's trailer here. (http://svtsupercharged.com/gallery/dhm)

I'll be due for a trailer overhaul soon, too. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

My 1990 trailer is doing the same. I will be making replacement parts out of 1/4 inch aluminum.

Grant's are polyethelene, similar to the cutting board material. But you probably don't want to go that route, he had to install steel plate underneath because the material was not strong enough by itself. Plastic steps might work great but finding a material that is thick enough and stong enough might be challenging.

I had the same problem on my 91 when I got it in 2003. The conclusion I came to is that it lasted 12 years that way and I might as well just replace it like Correct Craft originally did it except leaving space like you suggest against the frame. It was good for a rainy day. No bling, but practical.
