Is anyone suffering with their ballst tank pumps, at DWSA ski club we have have had fuses blowing and even melting the fuse box. Correct Craft gave us a new pump but the samething is happening after 3 weeks operation. The wires are hot and fuses blow. Could this be due to saltwater operation? if so, what can be done.

Alot of people do not realize with the 2006 pumps that the seacock valves MUST be left open when filling and emptying the tanks. We had the same issue until we founf that out. Just my two cents**

There's really no reason you would ever need to close the valves unless you were checking for leakes or something. If you do, your bound to burn them up. I think the main problem with them is the breakers, the amps they draw, the size of the power wires, and the impeller sticking. If you can't hear your pumps pumping you either have a tripped breaker, burnt out pump, or the impeller is stuck.

If I had a 2006 I would switch the pumps out to impeller pumps, it would require 6 pumps instead of 3. I do not like impeller pumps. If done correctly you can completely eliminate the valves as Malibu has done with their impeller pump system, it just takes a loop up to point higher than the highest point of the tank with a small vent installed at that point to break a siphon. It takes a bit more time to get this setup working correctly but once you get it done you will be rewarded with a quick maintenance free quiet ballast system.

I never close the seacock so the Atwood pump can last for 4 years, become no good case is the motor get rust and the bearing noise., it will draw more than double amps if forget to open the seacock valve and the coils of the motor heated to short and than the fuse ever burn.

i have had my port tank pump replaced 3 times and its still messed up. electrical all the way i think. just had it fixed 2 weeks ago and it fills just fine but it will not empty. just after blinking light comes on up front it throws the breaker switch. must have tried it 20 times so i have a port side tank full on my trailer in my garage. COMPLETE GARBAGE. my dad and now myself have had nautiques for 25 years and this one has had the most issues ever experienced by far.....may try Malibu sooner than later.

I think we figured out a little trick yesterday with these pumps. They seem to draw a lot of amps. Next time you turn them on, watch the voltage meeter on your dash fall way down. What you can do is put the throttle in the neutral position, rev it up, and then turn the pumps on. I think they need the little kick to get them going. It also helps if you pump them one at a time.

If the pumps sit for awhile the impeller can stick to the housing causing a blown fuse. When I empty my ballast I will flick them real quick to fill so that way the rubber vanes are going the right way for my next trip out on the lake for filling. It might help. If they sit for awhile take the cover off the pump and put some lube/vaseline or somthing on the impeller. That takes less than five minutes to do.

The entire 06 ballast system is just a bad idea from the start. CC has never been known to be good plumbers or electricians. Great boat, great company, they just don't learn from the mistakes that other companies have made.

You would think that a company with the reputation of Nautique would have service bulletins out etc. to make this right. I just bought my 2006 Sante and its awesome but I would expect quality in every aspect with Nautique and I'm not to happy with the ballast pump issue. I believe they do have a service bulletin out about this and a way to modify the system so that the run dry feature will still work. My issue is with the starboard pump, it has an intermittent sender apparently that has the gauge needle moving all over the place. Every time it goes it shows empty and the pump stops draining. System works great filling, I replaced all the impellers, it had the original yellow ones, to green...fills the factory ballast in about 3 mins...but the stupid starboard pump has a mind of its own when draining. Also the port and belly will work fine in drain but when their empty the pumps just keep running! I thought they were supposed to stop automatically when the impedence on the pump indicated they were not pushing water! Very frustrating.
