They should be the same. The cam is chain driven on LH rotation engines and gear driven on RH rotation engines. That way the cam, dizzy and oil pump will rotate the same way regardles of crank rotation. Just change the firing order on the dizzy for RH rotation.

I think I was incorrect in the above post. That applies to some Chryslers & Chevys. The 302/ 351 Fords use a regular chain drive for the cam with RH rotation. The dizzy drive gear on the camshaft is cut "backwards" on the reverse rotation cam causing the dizzy and oil pump to rotate in the normal direction which I think is CCW. You only need to change the drive gear on the dizzy shaft.

I have a distributor that was with the parts from the 302 I got with the boat and it appears to be counter clockwise rotation and it has a number of 64025 stamped on it. When I google that it, the only thing that comes up is a distributor for mercruiser. Not sure of this will work or ???

Is it better to go with an electronic distributor like a Mallory??

screw the points and join the 21st century and get an electronic distributor.

                  Hey bobcris,

I received my mallory ylm-512-cv and the rotation of the helix or gear is standard. Shouldn't it be reverse for the reverse rotation engine? I am on the hunt to get a different gear if that is what I need.

                  Thanks,

                  Skicraz

have you tried installing it? if it doesn't work then you don't have a reverse rotation engine.

I have. The gear is cut backward. I talked with the engine manufacturaer to make sure I had the correct engine. The gear should be cut right to left. I have a new gear on the way.

I should have been this one:
                      MAL-YLM512DV
                      Distributor, Ford V8 302 M.B.I. Marine, Reverse
Description: Distributor, Ford V8 302 M.B.I. Marine, Reverse

Everything else was the same but the cut of the gear.

if you have a factory multiport engine then it is a standard rotation engine with the 1.23:1 transmision and you do need the DV version and not the reverse rotation CV model.

Just an FYI: Discount Inboard Marine had a 302 RH points distributor on their site under the closeout page.
