Cutting the floor for a hidden battery?

So I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this but has anyone ever cut into the floor of their boat?

I'm contemplating cutting into the floor in my 99 super air to relocate my battery so it's 80% or so recessed into the floor under the rear wrap around seat area.

I'm thinking cut the floor and remove the foam, glass it back up and then have the option of installing the plastic battery box. This way it would maximize storage space and still make for easy access to the battery if necessary.

To the best of my knowledge there's nothing in this are of the boat besides flotation, cutting the hole and removing the foam would be simple and it would be very easy to glass the hole back up and vacuum bag it for a nice clean water tight compartment. I could even build in a small drain in case water ever made it's way into the box that would just drain into the bilge.

    What are your guys thoughts?

PS I borrowed someone's photo, excuse the 10sec photoshop lol.

It's a timely process and well worth the work IMHO... Here is a very detailed account of the exact project I did to my 2003 SANTE back in 2011... https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...ment-enlarging

All the pic were hosted on Photobucket so now they won't show up unless you are using Chrome with the "PB Fix" but that thread should answer any questions you have.

Awesome, I knew I couldn't of been the only one who thought this would be a good idea at some point. I'll have to install that fix for chrome.

You will need to make sure you're inside the stringers. That location looks too close to the chine so, it might not be all that deep. I would look at similar year hull and put the battery in the same location.
