    1994 Sport Nautique

I am looking to buy a 94 Sport Nautique and have a few questions. The engine has PCM 5.8 HO and Pro boss GT-40 on it. Should this be fuel injected? And what is the horse power rating? I understand from other threads that it prob has the pro-tech ignition. The boat has a little over 500 hours on it. What does it take to change it out when it starts causing issues? The owner said sometimes when starting the ignition breaker will trip. Also it has the dual captain chairs. Is there still storage under the passenger console like there would be with a rear facing bench? Thanks for the help! I am looking at this mainly as a family boat and pull some tubes, wake boards, and I may knock the dust off my old slalom.

If the boat does have a Pro Boss GT40 then it is Fuel injected and 310hp. The GT40 is a great and reliable engine.

The reason I say if, is that it wasn't available until 1995 so the engine in that boat was either a very late 1994 that had the GT40 added or the engine was replaced. Either way it's a great upgrade vs what was available in 1994.

I'd also confirm the boat was actually a 1994. With pics we could help with that.

Sorry can't help with the ignition breaker or storage behind the passenger chair.

The title confirms the boat is a 1994. I am trying to attach pics of engine and what I have of the boat. Owner says his mechanic say told him its fuel injected. I have seen some threads regarding the pro-tech ignition failing and being expensive to repair/replace. Should I be concerned, the boat has just over 500 hrs.

You have the GT40 engine which means no pro tech. So that is good. From the pics I can see that's a GT40 with a Fuel control cell, so it's not an early GT40.

Also those graphics were not the typical 94' graphic. They could've been changed.

Do you have a picture of the engine box, do you see cup holders for the rear seat?

The cup holders were added in 96 and I suspect that's what you may have.

Boat could easily be a 94 with a new engine and new graphics.

I did see a post with two capitains chairs. Looks like the area in front of the passenger is just open. So there is storage but it may be difficult to get larger things in there with the seat in the way.

No cup holders, I am posting a pic. So, that is the engine and ignition set up I want, right. The vin from the title is C494. So March 1994 production. I am going to call Correct Craft tomorrow to see if they can tell me how it was built. Asking $10k for it, no tower or Bimini. But it looks taken care of. I think I will run a vin check on it. Thanka for your help!

Well that settles it. It is a 94 with an engine swap.

Yes, that's the engine you want. Pretty much the best ski boat engine from the era. It was the last of the Ford Engines made by PCM. The 351 is a great ski boat engine as it had plenty of torque and out performs engines with higher HP ratings. The engine is also known to be very reliable.

If you ever need help with the engine there are a lot of knowledgable folks at correctcraftfan.com and the site had a GT40 issues post (Poor Man's GT40 guide) to help diagnose problems. Post the breaker issue there and you should get help pretty quickly. Although it may be worth posting once you have the boat. And make sure you have a voltmeter ready as they will want you to do some testing. They also like pictures and a story so include them when you post.

The sport is a great boat. Fun to drive and puts out a great Wakeboarding wake. It was also tournament rated for water skiing when it was made. Ski wake is a little big but shod be fine for a recreation skiier.

If you are looking to try wake surfing there is a post here about surfing a direct drive and discusses how to setup a Sport Nautique.

My first Nautique was a 95 sport. I really liked that boat. I love the look of the slant backs and the red and black color scheme is one of the best available. Polish that boat up and it'll be one of the best looking boats on the lake.

Only downside to the boat and the reason I've upgraded is that there isn't much room for storage in them.

Assuming no major vinyl issues, trailer is in decent condition, gauges work and the engine runs well I think 10k is a good price. Pretty difficult to get such a capable boat for such a low price.
