    04 196 Replacement Heater Core

I need a new heater core for my 04 196. From what I understand heater craft does not sell the correct heater core any more and the box and everything would need to be replaced if ordered through heater craft. I know a few have replaced their heater core from NAPA or Autozone with some minor adjustments to the box. Most that I have found that ordered the NAPA one seem like they were for 2002 or older boats, and I read a couple places they changed the box in 2003 not sure if this is true or not. So I was wondering if anyone has bought a replacement from NAPA or any other autoparts store that has been a decent fit for the 2004 style box. The part numbers I found people had used were NAPA 660-2100 and 660-3100 and a Autozone part number 702273. Any and all help is appreciated.

I bought the dodge van heater core. Worked fine. For 1999 air.

Don’t think the heater setup evolved with the year of the boat.

    Worth a try.

NAPA had a core for a Ford 150 that was a replacement for my 2004 216.. The cage needed a minor mod but worked out just fine. I found it by doing a search here on the forum.

I also have a 2004 196 with a HeaterCraft heater. I used a local radiator shop that procured the heater core for $50. Easy to fix, takes less than an hour.

I would pull the old core and see if you can get the guys at NAPA to see if they can match it up.

Yeah I have the core pulled and will take it in some time this week and have them match it up. I just figured I would check if anyone else has replaced one, and knew the part number, it would save me some time. I will post the part number after I figure out which one it is for the 2004 and up, because the 660-3100 part number others have used,I looked it up on NAPA's website and it is only 1 inch thick, so they must have made the box wider in 2004 than they were in previous years. It looks like heatercraft uses a 4 inch core now according to their website.
