    Gelcoat Floor

Has anyone removed their carpet, put a gelcoat over the raw fiberglass, and left it that way? I recently got a 2000 pro air and want to get rid of the carpet. I've been looking at Seadek and Deckadence, but my last boat had the nonslip textured gelcoat on the floor under the snap in carpet, and we all really liked it. I found plenty of textured gel coats I could use, but haven't been able to find anyone that has done this on a Nautique. Any thoughts?

I have seen it done, and I removed all carpet this winter, be prepared to super prep the floor before gel coating. Its definitely not smooth or even etc. Others ave done a fine job, but it looked like a lot of work. It is necessary for sea dek or gator as well........after a lot of hard thought...I put new carpet in for $500. Sea Dek will cost $1800....Gator $1500 and Aqua Marine $most affordable. Hope it helps

So do you think it would work to leave just the gel coat, or are you saying that is still necessary to add seadek or some type of material on top? I'd prefer to have just the textured gel coat with nothing over it. Thanks

Under you carpet...there will be no gel coat....just red raw fiberglass....If you want sea dek etc....you need to come up with something on the floor that will be your exposed floor between sheets of sea dek. Some people have painted the floor and put it down.....others have gel coated. Both....if you are going to leave them exposed....need serious prep on this kind of floor. The both show imperfections well.....so the prep is the most important. So if you like the gel coat.....I would strip the carpet.....start sanding......and be prepared to square off tops of all compartment lids....they will be very "gapy" when the carpet comes off. Then I would SPRAY it..........it will come out a lot better. I tried some of the roll on......still need to sand. Hope that helps. D
