Getting more power out of GT40 | 1998 Super Sport Nautique

    Hi Guys,

I am riding (Wakeboard) an absolutely slammed 1998 210 (Super Sport), with about 4200 lbs in ballast ( displacing a total of about 8000 lbs, hull weight included).

Engine is working quite hard, so I was wondering what upgrades or preventive measures could be taken, to avoid either block, cylinder, valve breakage, without having
to sacrifice weight ballast (wake is absolutely amazing at 23.9mph and a 77.5 feet rope).

I am doing oil changes every 50 hours (Valvoline Racing VR1), trans every 100 hrs (Dexron/Mercon III) and V drive oil every 500 hrs (non detergent 30W straight).

    Engine has around 1000 hours.

    Thanks!!

What prop are you currently running? Best bang for the buck would be an upgraded prop.

Agree on finding the right prop. Call Acme and see what will get you a good match of rpm and your 23.9 mph. I’m not sure but I’m guessing you should aim for under 4500 rpm (I’d think 4000) would be a reasonable goal.

I am running an Acme 1578 prop. Running a bit under 4000 rpm with the aforementioned weight

Your probably ok then, at least in my manual, it says to avoid running for extended periods over 4000rpm. Still, a more hardcore prop could bring down rpm's which would save you some gas and wear on engine. ACME can tell you.....and from what I have found, Nettles Props in TX have the best prices

Wake looks awesome and nice riding. I would like to here where you have your weight. I have the same boat 98' SS and I'm running 910's in the rear lockers(about 3/4 full w/ wakeboarding) and a 580 in the ski locker and about 300 of sand under the bow seats for a estimated 2,500lbs. She takes forever to get on plane. How long does it take you to get on plane with the Acme 1578?

On a old gen 210 nautique, weight placing acts as follows:

back: makes wake peakier and vert
middle: makes wake bigger and meatier
front: gives wake some transition and helps maintain wake shape at lower speeds

Taking that into account, the setup I use is the following:

two 700lbs bags in the back (1400lbs) - 34% of total weight
one 580lbs bag in the ski locker and a 1100lbs bag on top of it - 42% of total weight
one triangle of 1000lbs in the bow - 24% of total weight

Also, i usually I have one or two people in the boat (driver included).

speed is 23.9 mph and rope 77.5 feet.

wake cleans nicely, transition is comfortable and the wake has a very manageable kick to it.
boat also planes in about 15-20 seconds or so. Needless to say, one should be carefull when
stopping ( I use the factory bow cover just in case).

having recently wakeboarded on a 2018 Centurion Ri237, I would say this setup is a smaller
version of that wake, with less transition.

Finally, based on what you wrote, i think you are missing some middle and bow weight!
