Stargzer upgrade on 2000 Air Nautique

Hey everyone. Last season i was dealing with a bad speed input to my PP and speedometer. I started digging into it last weekend and I believe I have a bad paddle wheel, not just a crimped wired unfortunately. My choices are
    1. Replace paddle wheel for $140ish. Back to normal.
    2. By Nautic Laugic for $250ish. Back to normal with GPS instead of paddlewheel. CONS, If something else breaks on the old PP system, the GPS module is essentially a wash if i decided to finally bite the bullet upgrade to Stargazer.
    3. Upgrade to PP Stargazer. New system, GPS, new 'fancy' gauge. CONS, lose speedometer Faira gauge functionality. $750is

I'm leaning towards just biting the bullet and doing stargazer (3). I'm still looking for suggestions on getting the FARIA speedometer gauge working though w/o having to buy a new paddle wheel. Can that be done? I didn't pester PP cs about it too much, but seemed like a no. Any reason NOT to just buy stargazer?
    Thanks for the input.

I put PP stargazer on my 2004 216 and loved it. I couldn’t believe how well it worked.

I thought that the Faria gauge and the PP worked independently. Or is that a model specific thing? Mine is a 2004.

They tied the faria gauge into the paddle wheel input that PP is using when the Teflex gauges died.

I too dropped in the stargazer and got rid of the paddlewheel. After doing it...its the only way to go and I would not go back if it was free.

I put a transom mounted paddle wheel on mine (didn't want to drill the 2" hole). About $26. https://www.nautiqueparts.com/produc...226-2006-2008/
Mounts right where the air-guide was = no new holes.Harder to damage back there on the bunks. Didn't come with a connector just the bare wires, so I had to get one off amazon. Just match the pins to wire colors to your existing.

I also later upgraded to Stargazer so...I can also confirm that it's worth it if you wan to spend the money.

I have a 2004 SANTE. Perfect pass worked fine until the end of last season. Found out the paddle wheel was damaged. For those of you that have replaced them, how hard is it to get to? I would rather spend a little money and replace the paddle wheel vs spending a lot of money to get the stargazer. Any input is greatly appreciated!

You might be a good candidate for nautic laugic then. Mine is under the engine. I'd find it from the hull myself.

So no one has information on how i could supply a new input to the speedometer gauge other than using a new paddlewheel??
has anyone opted to purchase the 5" pp gauge to replace out the speedometer gauge if it's just going to be useless.

OK, so it depends on what's damaged. If the entire sender unit is damaged, then that's like $140 and involves replacing the unit and running the wire back up to the control module. That's fairly uncommon.

Now what is common is to run over a stick or something and knock a chuck off the paddle wheel itself. Sometimes this will bend the shaft at the same time. If that's the case, all you need is this: https://www.nautiqueparts.com/produc...placement-kit/

Replacement is very simple. There's a pin that goes through the sender that holds it in the bottom of the boat. Pull the pin, slide the sender out. Replace the paddle wheel and shaft at the same time. Just make sure you orient the paddle wheel the right way. Slide it back in, replace the pin and you're done.
