    303 Fabric Guard application

Gonna coat my cover with this stuff and am curious if anyone else has done it with the cover on the boat or off the boat? Wondering if it’s safe to do with cover on the boat to get a good complete coating?
    Thanks

I did it last summer and I laid it out on a long flat trailer I had after cleaning/washing the cover and drying it out. I would not do it on the boat cause it looked immposible to not get the spray on tower and other parts of the boat, plus you want to saturate the cover pretty well, lightly spraying is not going to get you the desired effect. I did inside and outside of the cover and it took an entire gallon using a nice sprayer. You dont want to do it when windy either or you will lose a lot of spray

I did it on my boat, I didn't have the space to lay it out. It did use a lot more that I was expecting and I didn't even do both sides. After I sprayed it on, I used a plastic glove or something to rub the coating into the material. It is still not as waterproof as I was hoping for.

You did not use enough...forgot to mention that I used a foam roller to saturate my cover (spray an area and then roll it to soak it into cover). Was like water off a ducks back when I was done, huge difference. Gonna treat it again in next couple weeks, found the Starbrite fabric guard on sale at Overtons for $40

I used the Starbrite waterproofing / UV protection on my canvas since the 303 Fabric Guard didnt' really have the UV protection. I asked this question before I purchased it because the UV protection was more important to me than the waterproofing.

The battery powered sprayer is the bomb and so easy to use. Using it does not kill your hands like a pump sprayer. A must purchase for any boat owner.

Lastly. I used the 303 Marine Aerospace Protectant on all my vinyl, but did not use it on any canvas

I wouldn’t apply while it’s on the boat. The spray is nasty, be prepared to get a little high too. I would be worried about it getting all over the boat and leaving a cloudy finish.

I sprayed mine over a bunch of patio chairs.

I applied spray on Bimini top while on boat and put towels over the windshield glass. When I sprayed on mooring cover I applied product while cover was on dock and not boat

                FYI,

Fabric Gaurd instructions specifically state to not saturate the material but it just dampen it.

It also recommends only applying to the outside of the cover.

Here’s another application method I’ve picked up from Teamtalk guys, haven’t done myself.

Put a few gallons of the stuff in a big bucket, trash can, or tub. Completely soak cover in it and move around to get it all covered. Once soaked, wring the rest into can, let it dry and then pour whatever is left of the product back into bottles for the next time you use it.

All I can tell you is I tried it the way they recommended the 1st time...and it sucked, still leaked and didn't bead up. Then I saturated it, did both sides and it works like a champ.
