    GS20 Prop Recommendations?

With more time and owners of GS20s, was wondering if anyone has tried different props for that model? I'm looking for something for higher altitude that is tailored for surfing while weighted (Factory +750lbs &ZR4). Not concerned about losing top end speed.

My dealer said try an ACME 1235 but stated he didn't have specific experience on a GS20. Thx in advance!

Sorry I don't have any prop recs. Still running the stock prop.

I am curious how you are filling your 750s. Did you piggy back them or are you using an over the side of the boat pump? I have 600# sacs in the my GS20 that I was going to piggy back, but it was so hard to reach the overflow fittings that I gave up and just started using an over the side of the boat pump.

Did you add any weight to the bow? I added an under the seat sac to the bow, but because of the limited space under the seats I really can't fill it full enough to off set the 600s.

Describe what prop is on there.... and describe how much clearance between prop and hull you have.

1235 is not a high altitude prop, or by any means in the top 30% of what folks consider to be “torque” props

amd there’s no vodoo magic with props associated with the gs20. Its about pitch, diameter and hull clearance.

The stock prop is a 13.25x16. I can't remember how much clearance there is, but I think it was between 1-1.5".

1235 (14.5 x 14.25, .105 cup) is a decent prop that does all well if clearance is not an issue. I bet a #1433 (14 x 14.25, .105 cup) or #1847 (14 x 14.25, .150 cup) would work great for you, these are the 2 I use...just the cup is different which mostly kicks in at mid/high. I dont notice much difference between these 2 on my boat, VERY similar feel.
Both give me excellent low end torque and I still get 40mph on the top (I have 24ft, heavily ballasted boat for surfing). Best thing to do is to call ACME, they may not have a lot of historical data for that boat yet, but will know what will and wont fit if you tell them what you have now, what clearance is, etc. They also have a swap program where you can try it and if you dont like it, send back and trade for another. Its a little more expensive that way, but better than ending up with something you don't like. If you wanna just buy....Nettle Props out of Austin, TX has great pricing. Think the 2 props I mentioned above are like $469 at Wakemakers and Nettles. May be able to find a used one in perfect shape too for $300-$350. That is how I got my 1847 spare (I have 2) 1847 and 1) 1433)

Evening: Just an over the side pump. No extra weight in the bow although I do fill it to 100% stock bow when I add the stern sac. I only have the bow between 40-60% when only running stock ballast in the stern tanks.

13.25” diameter and 16” pitch? That’s a ski boat prop!

verify these measurements are correct when you get time

Just to tie off here on this Q/Thread. After doing some measurements, talking to the dealer, Wakemakers, and ACME, I’m going to try the 1617 (14” x 13.75”).

I currently have an ACME 645 which is a 13.25 x 16 with a 1.5” gap to the boat. The ACME guys told me decrease the pitch but if you can also enlarge the dia w/o getting to close you’ll get better rpm control besides the pitch impact on the hole shot. Possible i could stretch to a 14.5” dia but might be close.

Will let you know how it works out. A good amount of positive reviews (not GS20 owners) saying this prop is fantastic for ballasted boats and surfing.

                    Thx for all the input.

I also have a 1579 (13.5x14.25 IRCC) that I will try this summer.

Let's compare notes (impressions). You see that Wakemakers advertises a kit for additional GS20 ballast? Shall we roe sham boe for who takes the plunge first?

Haha. I always wondered how to spell roe sham boe.

I will have to look into the Wakemakers ballast kit for the GS20 to see how it compares to what I already have. I have 600# sacks for the rear lockers and a 500# sack that goes under the bow seats (although due to limited space I can only fill the bow sack 50-60% so maybe 250-300#).

I haven't had much time to tinker with this set up though. Its hard when I'm the only one in the family that wants to surf and the 8 and 9 year old kids get very restless and impatient if they have to sit for a few minutes and when that happens my wife gets impatient.

I will say, with all of my ballast as full as I can get it, the wave is much taller and has more push, but its very short and hard to stay in the small pocket. While others on PN haven't had an issue with this, not enough push has been a big issue for me with the GS20. Could be a lack of skill or the wrong board or both. With this ballast set up I did have to move the 2 biggest people in our group to the bow of the boat to even out the weight some because it wouldn't plane out enough to produce a clean wave. A different prop would probably help with this as well.

Like I said I need to tinker with this set up some this summer. I want to fill the bow sack full and partially fill the rear sacks and maybe drain a little out of the non-surf side and see what happens. We shall see...

I double checked and yes these measurements are correct. I think Nautique went with a high pitch prop to produce 40+ mph top speed to satisfy the footers. It isn't a dedicated surf machine, its a compromise boat, err I mean crossover boat.

Well if you want more low end torque: increase dia and lower pitch:
