SmartPod trim deteriorating

Has anyone had luck refinishing the trim on the smart pods from the 2002+ models? I've just purchased a 2002 SNCB and the trim is sun dried and cracked. In my shopping for the boat, I noticed this seems to be quite common. I was thinking of removing, separating, stripping the flaking plastic and refinish with a plastic compatible paint.
