Fuel Smell and slow to crank

I have a 99 PAN with GT40 Fuel Injected. It runs fine but after it gets hot and sits in the water for more than a minute or two it is sometimes slow to crank and then I smell fuel after it does crank. I have changed the plugs out and don't know what to check next. It has 710 hours. Since I smell fuel I assume that this is excess coming from the exhaust. It must be an ignition problem? How do I troubleshoot this?

the fuel smell might also indicate a fuel problem, i'd check that out asap.
    I don\'t care.

I doubt the 2 problems are related. Run the blower and check the battery. It may be old, it may be bad. Check and make sure there are no loose or corroded connections.
