2016 G23- Total Ignition Failure Underway.

Today in my G (H6 motor) I hit the ballast shift to move 50 pounds to fix a curling wake and the engine and computer totally shut down abruptly. Felt like I hit something.

Touch screen fired back up but ignition would not turn on, no gauges would turn on and show current readings and boat would not start back up.

No breakers popped, no engine or electrical failures shown under diagnostics.

Kill switch properly secured. Throttle in neutral.

Seems to me there is a fuse that blew somewhere but I didnÂ’t have the time (or knowledge) to seek one out.

Ignition indicator light is blinking rapidly.

Got towed in and put boat on trailer. Dropping off at dealer tonight.

    Any theories??

Did you reset the system to be sure it was not a fluke, these are basically laptops running our boats and occasionally I have something strange happen at bootup tho nothing quite like that? But most times turning batteries off for few mins will do it, if not then disconnecting battery cables for 10mins will reset everything.
On my boat...there are main breakers under observer seat (sounds like you checked those bu if screen came back up its likely something smaller), there is also a breaker box near feet of driver against the kick panel and a couple breakers up under drivers helm behind steering wheel (associated with screen/ignition system so that could be possible)....breakers/fuses also in engine compartment against back seat...most of those are for ballast pumps, etc.

Its worth resetting but if it goes to dealer anyway, you should make sure you have the most recent system software update

I reset the system multiple times by turning off the batteries. I tried battery 1 and both to no avail. I checked all the obvious breakers (in a panel on the left side of the dash) and the breakers off the battery terminals. I didn't go so far as to disconnect the batteries.

I'll report back with what the techs find. Good call on the software update.

Nothing yet unfortunately. Hopefully I'll hear from the tech today. Taking them a while to get to me!

Our broken boat still hasn't been looked at by the local dealer. They got it on 5/19. I've gotten the "we'll get to it in the next two days" answer from the service manager 3 times now. The last phone call I was unable to get the service manager on the phone and was told by the customer service rep who answered the phone that our boat "just isn't a priority since I didn't buy the boat from them" and also storage boats take priority over everything.

I asked if there was anything I could do to ensure the boat would be looked at today. She said no and laughed (literally). I was not laughing.

I emailed Nautique customer care about my experience. Any thoughts??

Nautique customer care response was quick, I'll give them that. Copied below.

"Several dealerships operate with this same “rule”. The dealerships are not owned by the factory so they can really operate however they would like. It is most definitely the busiest time of the year for us and dealership’s service departments but that doesn’t make your situation any better. I will go ahead and forward your email to the service manager and owner there to see if they can try and get to you but that is really all that I can do at this point! I am really sorry for this…"

So what are your thoughts about buying your next boat from them right now?

I would be curious to hear the circumstances of your purchase. Did you buy used, or buy new out of territory. I can't help think that the dealer feels more shafted if you could have bought from them, but didn't vs. finding used.

Ha, not stoked but perhaps it would get me better service. I wish they'd look at me as future business even just for service but I'd imagine the service manager doesn't think like this. Only the salesman who don't have any role in this type of matter.

I bought my 2016 G23 in the fall of 2016 used (35 hours, 1 owner) from Nautiques of Orlando. I was very specific in my price point, options and buying time frame. I gave the local dealer the chance at finding me a boat but they couldn't accommodate. I have the emails to prove it. In fact the last one about seeing a new 2016 they had on the lot went un-answered, by the owner...

At that point my search was nationwide and I had a boat in my driveway within 2 weeks.

Do dealers get paid anything from Nautique for warranty work? Or just not enough?

I hear repeatedly that they get paid, just less than for regular work. I hear that about all of the brands.

Fixed! Amazing what an email to the owner of the dealership will do. Service manager stayed late to help me out.

Explanation of issue: Depth finder had a short which is connected to the ignition. Boom, dead boat.

Glad I didn't waste a weekend trying to find and fix the issue myself. I don't think I could have solved that but I knew it was something simple that had shorted out.

All's well that ends well I guess....

This can vary by state and by manufacturer, but generally, yeah, the manufacturer isn't subject to paying whatever retail labor rate the shop charges, but rather part of the dealer agreement includes a given labor rate for warranty work. I do believe, though, that some state laws dictate what the rate must be - not necessarily the dollar amount, but whether the manufacturer or dealer sets it.

Back on the original topic, I'm glad your boat is all fixed now!
