    2008 220 Sante - loose tower - Help!!

    Hi guys,

i have a 2008 220 Sante. I am not sure what tower I have (maybe someone can tell me) but I took it out for the first time after buying it and I could not believe how unstable and loose the tower was. I used to have a 2002 Sante and the tower was way more solid. Going through rough waters it shakes and rocks. Un believable. Is there a fix for this? Is thos Normal for this model. this really does not feel like correct craft quality I am used to.

    Attached are pics.

Did you check for loose bolts? The boats get rattled a lot, so I make a point to tighten up all my tower bolts each spring, and then re-check mid-summer.

It could be just loose. Look underneath where tower comes thru deck and check nuts on underside of tower legs.
Thats a Titan tower and supposed to be a pretty solid design that folds down pretty low too from what I remember.

It's a great tower but seemed very wobbly. I'll tighten the bolts and see what that brings. I was just curious to see if others are experiencing the same thing

Also there are some bushings that typically go bad and need to be replaced. They help keep things tight and noise-free.

Do you know where we can get bushings for this tower ?

I love this tower , it’s the best tower of that era hands down. Ease of use to fold and performance are top notch . There are several places to check the bolts.

1st check to make sure at the rear tower feet there is a plastic bushing between the two points where the upright meets the tower foot ( where the Allen bolt is ). This bushing is notorious for cracking . It’s somewhat hard to source. The tower was originally made by Titan ( which was more recently Star One Wake ) Not sure if they’re still able to source the bushings or not .

2nd check the twist knobs above your head

3rd check all the through hull bolts on the tower feel to ensure they’re snug . Newer towers tend to sway just a touch more than the older towers. This is by design. It disperses the stress created by tower shake . Before towers were more rigid and that stress transferred right to the mounts and caused lost of stress fractures in the gelcoat of the original designs. Unfortunately the FCT on your previous SAN was one of the most rigid towers on the market. So comparing the one on your new boat to the old isn’t an apples to apples because the design change. Also your new boat has way more beam ( width) and is ginormous compared to your old San. A lot more pipeing gioing left to right and front to back . With that said , sway is way different than rattles and clunking. I can tell you I have 4 racks filled , and a pair of Wetsounds Rev 10’s in mine and this tower is rock solid. However I have noticed it sways immediately if one of the rear Allen’s are even just a touch loose.

My guess due to history is that one or both of your bushings are cracked, have failed , or are missing
