That’s a great question. There’s another thread out there and unfortunately the Hero 8 does not work. Don’t know about the Max. Supposedly the 6 works but nothing like buying old technology for new technology. I keep thinking Nautique will update their software. Let me know if you get the hero 8 to work.

My dealer (WSC in Georgia) said some of their customers were able to link the Hero8. Unfortunately I am not one of them or I would share. The workaround is you can control your Hero8 from the app on your smart phone. Not 100% ideal but still get some usability at the touch of your fingers.

I have a hero 7 and it works fine on my GS22. I first bought a Hero 8 and I could not get it to work.

This is super frustrating, it was one of the features I was looking forward to the most. Unfortunatly I only have Hero8's. Buy old technology, or just set up some 8's for the day and pull clips at the end of the day?

How nice is the feature where it automatically turns on and off? Does it work as intended with minimal issues? Does it support multiple GoPro's?

If you already own a Hero 8 you now know it will not function with LINC. I have heard GoPro changed the management protocol to defeat knock off remotes. If I were you I would get the GoPro Smart Remote, velcro it to your dash (it fits nicely over in the right corner).

You can also get an extension charging cord for the remote and plug it into the USB port to the left of the dash to leave it there permanently. It works flawlessly to control the Hero 8.

Deleting my post. Somehow, I didn't read all the way to the bottom of the thread.

Are there any updates to this? Its getting frustrating hearing nautique blame GoPro when the GoPro protocol is now completely open source https://gopro.github.io/OpenGoPro/ unless there's some obscure feature missing.

I have NOT heard of any support for cameras beyond Hero 7. Hero 7 works relatively well with a few hiccups. First make sure the camera is properly set-up and has been on for a minute or so before connecting with LINC. Another is that sometimes LINC will not connect. You know it has not connected when LINC displays "connecting" for about two, three seconds and then the connecting message disappears. The cure to this is to power down LINC once, (not twice to completely power off) usually this will resolve a connection problem. Occasionally I find that I must completely power down LINC to get it to connect. Finally, make sure you are using quality, supported SD cards. Using non-supported SD cards usually causes the camera to hang while recording. The only resolution to this is to remove the camera battery.

I tried to get a Hero 8 to connect to my 2021 G23 yesterday and could not make it connect. My old Hero 4 works though.
