Threads in the block for Knock Sensor

Finally getting around to de-winterizing the boat. Found all the threads on the port side knock sensor are completely gone. Tried running a 1/4" NPT tap in there, but couldn't get any bite. Anybody have any advice? I've read maybe moving to a 3/8" tap would work, but then what knock sensor to I install? Other options? Boat is a 07 210 with 330EX
    Thanks

Is it in block or heads? On my 97 the sensor threads into the back of heads and there is a matching hole on the other side so you could just move it.

Both good suggestions. Your '07 I think might have (2) knock sensors, both sides, so moving it might not be an option. I'd do the helicoil, or drill out, tap larger and put in reducer bushing from one size to the other. If you're not handy at those items I'd probably take it somewhere. Also, you might want to put some pipe dope, plumbers putty, or similar on the outside of the helicoil before screwing it in so you don't dribble water from this hole.

Thanks for all the reply's guys. I ended up taking to a dealer to let them handle it. I've got no experience with helicoils and don't want my first experience be while hanging upside down into the engine bay... Not sure how the dealer is going to handle it, but he said they normally only charge an hour to do the work... lucky for me it's their busiest time of the year...

100% bet they are going to install a helicoil. not that's bad. beats a new part for just some simple threads.
