Changing Temperature Gauge - 2003 SAN

    Hi

I have a 2003 SAN with analog Faria gauges. The temperature gauge is not working properly - it shows the temp as running hotter then it is (based on engine diagnostics and infrared temp gauge used).

The part for a new gauge is pretty cheap - question is this - how hard is it to replace the gauge and is it possible that the issue involves more that then gauge itself.

    Thanks in advance.

It’s not too difficult. I laid on my back and reached up through the holes in the back of the dash to access the gauge. Unplug the wires, remember which one it came out of because there are two receptacles, unscrew the black retaining collar counterclockwise and pull it off. The gauge will still seem to be stuck in there so I used a small channel lock to give it a gentle twist to dislodge it from the dash. Push it out from the back or if it’s still tight twist it out from the front. The new one comes with a new black collar and its best to have an assistant up top to keep the gauge from spinning as you tighten up the collar. Wear some eye protection because there are always some crumbs of debris that will find their way into your eyes. You’ll need a little flashlight too. It’s little tight working through the holes but a lot less work than taking off the dash pod and risking cracking the curved face plate etc. Good luck and I hope this helps.
