    Defeating a broken battery selector

Just in case your battery selector ever splits apart and does not make contact, here is how you can bypass it. Especially when it happens on a holiday (ask me how I know).

step 1 - get access to the back of the selector
step 2 - move one of the other batteries to the common post (see pics)
step 3 - enjoy the rest of your day having only been slightly delayed

I realize this is some basic stuff for many of you, but if I help one person save their weekend then it is worth it.

pic on right is the after

    Holy crap.

WARNING: you can burn your boat down to the water line if you mess this ^^^ up. Let those terminals rotate a hair because the cheap cables are too stiff and make contact and watch Satan come alive in your G.

Nautique leadership should fix this, 3-4 years of this now?

coming from a guy who was broke down on the water twice by this same issue and had to pay out of pocket to repair both times. Thanks Chessie Marine for not returning calls, great way to honor warranties!

Bill- here’s your freebie. The problem isn’t the switches, tell your team to source quality flexible power and ground cables. They won’t rip the Perkos in half.

I just had the exact same thing happen this past weekend. Luckily West Marine was open till 8pm on Saturday so I picked up a new switch. Installed it Sunday morning and was back in business. Marine Max is going to reimburse me for the cost of the part.

I agree with Ryan that the battery cables are too stiff and put too much stress on the switch. Perhaps Perko brand switches wouldn't fail as easy as the Blue Seas System switches, but more flexible battery cables would most likely solve the problem.

        Brings back bad memories .

Happened to me in the middle of the lake . I used my ninja skills and pulled the lower panel down and saw it simply broke to pieces . Nobody would answer the phone to help (friends )

After an hour I did exactly what you did . Mine was hanging so I found a sandwich bag and our first aid kit bandages to hold the plastic bag over the hot wires .

        What a cluster $&@“

Agree this should have been addressed especially since they are aware of this issue

happened to my 2017 210 a few months back. The selector switch would spin freely and the battery would not turn on. Luckily I was at my dock behind me house when it happened and I just went to the dealer and got a new switch. 30 min or so and had it swapped out and had no issues since.

Same failure as seen in above post. I drilled out holes where screws are that broke the plastic they are screwed into. Put small bolts with nuts
through it to hold it all back together not a permanent fix as the nuts on my bolts prevent the knob from being able spin, so it's in the both position for now. Should get me through the weekend.
