Pebble NSS App won't start. Always says "Failed" and a possible solution

    Gang,

I've had good luck with my Pebble watch until the last couple of weeks. The one I had on the boat failed. The "up" button just quit working and nothing would bring it back. I finally just put it in the trash and got one of my spares out.

First day, it worked fine for an hour or so and then every time I selected the NSS app, it would start the little loading bar and then just say "Failed." I tried everything. Finally did a Factory Reset, reset everything and it seemed fine. For about 20 minutes until it went right back to the same behavior. Ugh!

So I got ANOTHER spare and again, it worked for an hour or so and went into this "Failed" thing.

After a lot of troubleshooting I think I know what's going on:

    - Even though it said "Failed" the Pebble was still paired and talking to the LINC. The little icon on the LINC was showing the Pebble.

    - This started when I got a spare watch out and started using it.

    - It repeated the same behavior on two spare watches.

So here's what I did wrong and my theory on why it's failing:

    - When I got the new watch out, I paired it why my iPhone and made sure it had the latest and greatest firmware and app. I then went out to the boat and ran the "Pair with Pebble" from the LINC. Paired up, let's go.

    Here's my theory:

    - In this state, I had the Pebble watch paired with the LINC and the iPhone. I was also using the iPhone on the boat for Bluetooth music. I think the NSS app gets confused and was trying to communicate with the iPhone instead of the LINC. This would explain why the Pebble worked fine, but the NSS app would always go to "Failed" when I selected it. Just a theory, but so far the results are promising.

    - When I got home last night I was sitting here at the kitchen table with just the phone and the watch. Boat was obviously off and way out of range anyway. Selected NSS app and it came right up. No problem. So this is also supports the theory that it doesn't know what to do with multiple destinations configured.

    Possible solution:

    - I went into watch and selected Settings/Bluetooh. Went down to my iPhone and selected "Forget." This left the Pebble configured to talk to ONLY the LINC.

    - All testing so far seems good. I went out there several times, started up the LINC, tested the Pebble, Shutdown the Pebble, brought it back up, restarted the LINC, everything I could think of. I also had my iPhone out there playing music via Bluetooth at the same time. Everything worked fine. I'll do more real-world testing this week.

I went back through all the old Pebble threads here and found a post from Jeff. He said there the Pebble could NOT be paired with the LINC and the iPhone at the same time and I'd just forgotten about this when I got a spare out.

Good to know. I think I remember having to Forget the bluetooth Iphone connection before the watch would link up with LINC system.

I wish it had just done that. Refused to pair to the LINC because that would have pushed me towards having it forget the iPhone first...

And confirmed. We surfed for several hours yesterday and the Pebble worked just fine. In short, don't have it paired to anything but the boat.

I suspect that technically it COULD be paired simultaneously paired with a phone that isn't on the boat or doesn't have Bluetooth enabled. I think the NSS app just gets confused if they're both linked up at the same time.

Okay, I need some help. I am attempting to pair a Pebble 2 watch to my 2017 GS22. Here is where I'm at -- I have downloaded the software onto my I phone. The app is on the pebble 2. I have disconnected the pebble bluetooth from the iphone. However, when I push the pebble pair icon in the systems menu, it just times out. Does someone remember the thread for what versions of each software I need for the 2017? the Lync software begins with a 2017 number... the software I'm running on the pebble is the current software, I think. Any help appreciated. Given the postings here that the pebble servers will go down shortly, I would love to have it work..

Do you also have the Pebble on the Bluetooth screen? It has to be there in order to be discoverable. I'm not sure the Pebble 2 works. I have all Classics and I know those work.

l'll second Charles. Pebble 2 works on 2017 models because I have a Pebble 2 and a 2017 G23. Works fine. After you download surf select info to Pebble Two forget bluetooth connect between Pebble 2 and Iphone. Delete both bluetooth connections on Iphone and watch, leave your Iphone at your house, do not bring to your boat. Take Pebble 2 to boat and make sure Pebble 2 is in discovery mode while it links up. I struggled with this the 1st time as well. Iphone in boat while attempting this link will cause Major problems; keep iphone away during this process.

Thanks! I thought I did that, but my wife's phone may have been in the boat.... I will retry.

I am having a similar problem. I have 2 pebble classics that have been updated to latest software. The first time I used them they both worked great, no big problems. However, the next day I tried to use ru both and I get the same error on both devices; “Failed” comes up on the screen when trying to load the app. They both connect to Lync no problem. I have deleted the other devices in the Bluetooth lost as well, but no luck.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

Do you have other Bluetooth devices in and around boat if so move them far way and out of range. No cell phones in boat while sysnching up watch with Linc system

Do you mean when I’m linking the watches to the Lync system or when I’m launching the NSS app on the Pebble?

All you really need to do is go into the Bluetooth settings on the Pebble watch and have it "forget" everything except the boat. That'll do it.

Good afternoon guys , i have a 2018 230 . My pebble 2 would not pair no mater what i tried. looking at the software in the pebble it was beyond the 2.9.1 Nautique
has listed. I tried down grading the software and it couldn't happen. One thing i didn't try is the pebble app itself . There is a old version and a new version. Its possible you have to first set the watch up with the old version and see if that puts in the correct soft were . Charles was such a good sole that he sent me a classic and it works perfect. Have had no issues at all. Not sure if it works the same in the other boats but i'm able to use the boat remote and the watch at the same time . Very cool. Wife uses remote and watch lets me know to counter steer.
