Gang,
I've had good luck with my Pebble watch until the last couple of weeks. The one I had on the boat failed. The "up" button just quit working and nothing would bring it back. I finally just put it in the trash and got one of my spares out.
First day, it worked fine for an hour or so and then every time I selected the NSS app, it would start the little loading bar and then just say "Failed." I tried everything. Finally did a Factory Reset, reset everything and it seemed fine. For about 20 minutes until it went right back to the same behavior. Ugh!
So I got ANOTHER spare and again, it worked for an hour or so and went into this "Failed" thing.
After a lot of troubleshooting I think I know what's going on:
- Even though it said "Failed" the Pebble was still paired and talking to the LINC. The little icon on the LINC was showing the Pebble.
- This started when I got a spare watch out and started using it.
- It repeated the same behavior on two spare watches.
So here's what I did wrong and my theory on why it's failing:
- When I got the new watch out, I paired it why my iPhone and made sure it had the latest and greatest firmware and app. I then went out to the boat and ran the "Pair with Pebble" from the LINC. Paired up, let's go.
Here's my theory:
- In this state, I had the Pebble watch paired with the LINC and the iPhone. I was also using the iPhone on the boat for Bluetooth music. I think the NSS app gets confused and was trying to communicate with the iPhone instead of the LINC. This would explain why the Pebble worked fine, but the NSS app would always go to "Failed" when I selected it. Just a theory, but so far the results are promising.
- When I got home last night I was sitting here at the kitchen table with just the phone and the watch. Boat was obviously off and way out of range anyway. Selected NSS app and it came right up. No problem. So this is also supports the theory that it doesn't know what to do with multiple destinations configured.
Possible solution:
- I went into watch and selected Settings/Bluetooh. Went down to my iPhone and selected "Forget." This left the Pebble configured to talk to ONLY the LINC.
- All testing so far seems good. I went out there several times, started up the LINC, tested the Pebble, Shutdown the Pebble, brought it back up, restarted the LINC, everything I could think of. I also had my iPhone out there playing music via Bluetooth at the same time. Everything worked fine. I'll do more real-world testing this week.
I went back through all the old Pebble threads here and found a post from Jeff. He said there the Pebble could NOT be paired with the LINC and the iPhone at the same time and I'd just forgotten about this when I got a spare out.
