new/replacment temperature gauge

My temperature gauge in my 94 SN has finally stopped working completely. Does anyone know where I can get a replacment that will match? I tried calling around and I was told the part was discontinued but I find it hard to believe there isn't a stash of these things somewhere.

If all else fails - does anyone know anything about these things in detail. Can they be repaired?

have you checked or replaced the sending unit? I would try that before looking for a new gauge.

Replacing the sender is a good idea but I don't think that is the problem.

The gauge has been going down the tubes for some time now. It would peg out or just stay dead when the boat was running and if I would hit the dash or bang on the front a few times it would pop back to the correct temperature. This lead me to believe I had dirty connections on the gauge so I cleaned them and saw no change. The "hit-fix" needed to happen more and more often until now it won't work at all. My thought is that if it was the sender my banging on the dash wouldn't affect anything at all. That being said, it could still be the sender but I very much doubt it.

Another irritation, the temp gauge's faceplate has yellowed ( a typical event for the VDO gauges - so I am told).

If I am missing something or you know how to fit this I am all for trying just about anything.
