    Conversation Starter

Need some suggestions of best place to get a reliable starter. Last year I replaced my starter due to Bendix issues starter would not stay engaged. The first replacement lasted only 3 starts before the Bendix gave up, at that point the starter would only make whirring noise when you turn the key. So I returned it and the replacement worked through the rest of last season. Guess what the starter Bendix seems to be toast again, so I'm guessing the quality of these aftermarket starters is to blame. Any suggestions where to get a good quality starter? Or maybe I should find a shop to rebuild the original.

That's the OEM starter for that engine. If you're continuing to break the bendix, then your problem lies elsewhere.

use a VOM to check for voltage at the starter when you are trying to start it. You could have a voltage drop due to bad/corroded connections.

Thanks for the feedback... I'll run through the wiring to check and clean everything.

Who knows where that starter is from,no where in the above link does it say it's an oem starter. If the picture is even correct,it does not even have a PCM part number on it,which is RA122014 assuming it's a Ford. If it is and you decide to go new google Arco 70125, they are made here and can be found for around 130.

That link is from Nautiqueparts.com. Do you really think they're selling knock-off replacement parts on that site?

I did not say that Charles, those are your words. What I said was that starter is not an oem PCM starter. Maybe thats all Townsend can get since Ford is not supporting Windsor marine engines. There are other options for starters, the one I suggested is built in the USA.

Here is an example of a PCM oem part from their site- clearly marked in the text as a PCM part and with PCM part number

Here now is the starter not marked as a PCM part and not a PCM part number nor is manufacturer noted

Click image for larger version Name:	non PCM starter.jpg Views:	1 Size:	29.3 KB ID:	559718

Here is another example of a PCM part still available to them from Ford since its also used in a million automotive applications -
                  notice the PCM part number

Click image for larger version Name:	PCM part.jpg Views:	1 Size:	29.1 KB ID:	559719
Finally here is a oem Nautique part from Sherwood as you can see it is marked in their parts system as SHE Click image for larger version Name:	non PCM part.jpg Views:	1 Size:	31.5 KB ID:	559720
