    Sport Nautique Hot Start Issues

I have a 1994 Sport Nautique with the PCM 5.8HO with the throttle body fuel injection, the boat has around 500 hours on it, and sometimes sits for weeks at time.

The last few times I have used it, the boat starts up first crank, like always. Once I get the motor hot and turn it off, it will start right back up if I start it back up within 0-20/30 minutes. However, If I wait any longer than that, it WILL NOT start back up, even after numerous attempts, unless I wait for a really long time. Sounds like a vapor lock issue right?

This weekend, I had a buddy with me, who suggested we try starting fluid, it cranked over and ran for a second, and then turned off. The second time we tried it, he kept spraying fluid in there for 5-10 seconds to keep it running and after some rough running, it ran fine again, until we shut it down, and then it wouldn't start again. Waited a few hours, and the she started up first crank.

When I turn the key, I can hear the fuel pump priming, but that's not to say its working under cranking conditions.

For what its worth, I am using 93 octane ethanol free fuel, and recently had a mechanic do a tune up, but I am unsure of what all he did in the "tune-up". The issue was happening before the tune up as well.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would suggest checking the fuel PSI when it has this issue. Mine dropped to a really low number. The next morning, after it cooled, it was fine. My issue was the lower pressure pump. It sound exactly like your issue and I had the same motor.

I've got the same motor and have never had vapor lock (but I'm also not in Texas), and don't know that it's ever really been a reported issue. The next time it happens, you can try throwing some cold/wet towels on the fuel pump/lines and if it fires up, then it would be vapor lock. But I agree with mf, probably a pump issue, but correct me if I'm wrong, I think that engine only has the one pump.
