I have a 1994 Sport Nautique with the PCM 5.8HO with the throttle body fuel injection, the boat has around 500 hours on it, and sometimes sits for weeks at time.
The last few times I have used it, the boat starts up first crank, like always. Once I get the motor hot and turn it off, it will start right back up if I start it back up within 0-20/30 minutes. However, If I wait any longer than that, it WILL NOT start back up, even after numerous attempts, unless I wait for a really long time. Sounds like a vapor lock issue right?
This weekend, I had a buddy with me, who suggested we try starting fluid, it cranked over and ran for a second, and then turned off. The second time we tried it, he kept spraying fluid in there for 5-10 seconds to keep it running and after some rough running, it ran fine again, until we shut it down, and then it wouldn't start again. Waited a few hours, and the she started up first crank.
When I turn the key, I can hear the fuel pump priming, but that's not to say its working under cranking conditions.
For what its worth, I am using 93 octane ethanol free fuel, and recently had a mechanic do a tune up, but I am unsure of what all he did in the "tune-up". The issue was happening before the tune up as well.
Thanks in advance for any help!
