    oil pressure @ idle

I've got an 85 ski natique w/351 pcm. Running 30 weight. Oil psi @ idle is 20 (after warming up). The gauge is fine, but the "idiot light" comes on. At about 1200 rpm's it goes out. Max psi reads about 45-50. Anyone else ever had this, the light is driving me crazy..Thanks

    RE: oil pressure @ idle

Your idle oil pressure will always be lower because the pump is not flowing enough oil to create pressure.

    Your numbers sound fine.

Check your elec connections for the light. Might have to replace the sending unit on the engine. Had the same thing happen to my 85. will drive you crazy after awhile.

seem to have solved the problem. replaced oil and filter w/10w40. Had already replaced sending unit, but used teflon tape to seal the threads. Cleaned threads and used anti-sieze, which is conductive. Oil pressure at idle is now @ 20 and under load is a steady 50psi. I really think the teflon tape was effecting the ground. Seems to be working fine now..Thanks
