    2005 216 Knock Sensor Issues

I bought this boat used and it has about 250 hrs logged and has the PCM 330 motor. The previous owner disclosed that the knock code comes up because during winterization someone started it without the sensor being installed and he never bothered having it cleared because it runs perfect.
Before the first outing I took the boat to the dealer and had the code cleared. On the first launch the code came back up, but as the owner stated the boat ran fine and I never heard any detonation, pinging or missing from the engine, it purred like a kitten.
I called the dealer after getting off the water that day and ordered a new sensor. The second trip out I had them install the sensor and clear the code.
Once again on the first launch the code came back up.
I searched PCM's site and there is no way of contacting them without logging in as a dealer.
I have searched previous threads here and have not found any similar problems.
Does anyone have any experience with the same issues?
    Thanks for your help!

My advice would be, fill up with Supreme Unleaded gas, throw in a bottle of fuel additive. Have both (The excalibur has 2 knock sensors - i think) replaced.

      Been there, done that,
I've run three tanks of 91 octane through the boat with additive, the PCM manual states that the motor is set up to run off 87 octane fuel.

Ok, I was having a similar problem a summer or two ago. Kept getting knock sensor warnings on the dash but boat running just fine. I have the same engine as you, although one year they started putting (2) knock sensors in these, mine's a 2004. I went to my dealer and just got a new knock sensor and the parts guy said - are you sure this is the problem as we almost never see these go bad. It bench tested fine. I came across this thread - https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...k-sensor/page2. Go to post #17. I made this exact repair to the wire on mine and I haven't had the issue since. BTW, I also bought the little diacom $50 tool that reads codes and resets them yourself so you don't have to go to dealer.

Jacobs......your pic brings a question up to me........1 year new naut owner..........beaching the boat? I have always been nervous in water lees than 4ft....much less beach it.

I am a ultra pansy when it comes to these type of things, but I would love to get ashore easier than anchor and paddle board!!! Sorry to change subject.

Thanks Homer for the possible solution, I'll try it!!
Can you please give me the model number of the reader you purchased? It is rather inconvenient to be running back & forth to the dealer.
            Seriously,
            Thanks for your help

New used boat, not new boater. This is my 2nd Nautique and I had 2 Mastercraft's before that. First boat purchased 34 years ago.
Don't be a pansy, you can beach these just fine if it's sand and has an adequate drop off. The water is clear and may be a bit deceiving, at the swim step the water is about 4-1/2' deep. The gelcoat and fiberglass reinforcement is the thickest in the belly and I have never had an issue in the hundreds of beachings performed in the past.
Thanks for looking out for the new boater though...

Jacobs, sorry for the delay. Go to Rinda.com and look at the CodeMate there. CanÂ’t remember if I got mine direct from them but thatÂ’s what you want for the cheap effective code reader and resetting of repeat codes. Follow their instructions it comes with.
