I was heading back to the dock after a brief cruise to dinner and this code popped up after a ten second episode of it missing. Cruising at around 20 mph and it feels/sounds like it’s bogging down. I just nursed it back the last 100 yards to the dock. Glad it happened so close to the dock.

DTC 305. Am I not supposed to drive it now? How serious is this? I started it and ran it back to the trailer without any codes flashing today. It seemed to start a tad rough, but that may be because I was really paying attention to it.

I’m on my 3rd Nautique and this is the first time I’ve had any alert like this.

I wouldn't run it until it has been diagnosed . You can damage the catalyst quickly if misfires bad enough. The engine computer monitors crankshaft speed to detect misfires. It can sense the engine speed slowing down when #5 is on its compression stroke. There is a problem with fuel, fire, or compression assuming the crank sensor is doing its job.

I had the same message come up for #2 cylinder at the beginning of the season. My boat is currently in the shop getting a new engine due to compression loss. I wish it would have failed my last time out last fall vs. first time out this spring. Maybe yours will be something simple.

Oh man. That’s not good news. That sounds like a summer killer. Weird thing is it seemed to run fine yesterday and no codes came up. These phantom problems are the WORST. Especially since I’m on my last year of warranty.

Your LINK screen says diagnostic message 1 of 2. What is the other one?

I wondered about that 1/2 as well. I’ve never seen anything come up on the screen before this last thing.

It's in the menu for the LINC. I think press the rocker switch button on the left, then press the very bottom button on the left or right. Can't remember exactly. Once you get to the correct screen you will see something like diagnostic messeges. There is one section for electrical faults such as lighting and other electrical accessories . Then there is a section for engine faults.

I was able to briefly speak to the dealer about it today. He looked it up and discovered it could be multiple things. Most of the listed potential problems seemed relatively benign. He's gonna call PCM in the morning and get their opinion before having me bring it in. He reminded me that there are some pretty good safety nets in place that tell you to shut down etc before doing major damage. Fingers crossed...
