Another hull cleaning HELP!

Well I seem to have tried most everything and just cant get rid of all the crud on the bottom of my new 98 SN I just purchased.

I started with JJV's best and that did take quite a bit of the really ugly stuff off. But after 4 applications it just doesn't seem to be taking anything more.

then tried the Oxcilic acid treatment on a 4x4 are today and after an hour of applying and scrubbing it seems to be doing nothing.

Then went to the Lysol TB cleaner and Hydrogen Peroxide and that doesn't seem to touch the stuff left on the bottom of the hull.

What the heck should I try next. Has anyone ever wet sanded the crud off the bottom???

I've also hear of on/off and some others but are they going to really work.

Don't know where this boat was left but it is like there is cement on the bottom of it. Here is picture of the worst are that is still the thickest but around it still also has a thin layer that wont come off.

Im starting to wish I had not bought the dang boat.

have you tried the starbright hull cleaner? It's worth a try. it's available at Walmart and westmarine. Just a thought,

I assume that this is below the waterline and is a result of leaving the boat in the water? I'd try thisCyclo Polisher, Dual Head Polisher, Cyclo Orbital Polisher, orbital buffer, cyclo buffer, machine buffer, airplane buffer, trailer buffer. I have one it and it works great. Its pricey but is very well made. You can use different pads that are of varying degrees of abrasiveness. I'd think for your 98 SN you may want to give it a good wax job anyways and it works great.

No I did not try the Star Brite as it is only an 8% solution of Oxcilic acid.
I do have a buffer and may try that with some polishing compound today and see what happens. Yes, the picture above is at the stern of the boat on either side of the rudder. the previous owner said it was like that when he bought it 3 years ago. So it has been on the boat for a while. No idea how many years it sat in the water or where. May also try some stronger acid like Muriatic first, as I do plan on buffing and waxing when I get the hull cleaned off.

Had one looked just like it. I sprayed anything I had - I think 'totally awesome' is what I finally settled on, but it took about 3 days of scrubbing with a rough sponge like a brillo. I had to concentrate on trying to clean a spot about the size of a quarter then work out from there. It's never easy.

OMG! Must have taken you forever. thinking I may just put it in the lake and use it for the rest of the summer. Then attack again in the fall after the season is over.

starbrite hull cleaner will remove that in about 30 seconds

I would try undiluted Dollar Store toilet bowl cleaner. Spray it wait sprayit wait....

When I bought my 98’ SS, it was way worse than that. Sno-bol toilet cleaner will take it right off due to the hydrogen chloride. Spray it on(wear eye protection and a long sleeve shirt, it will burn) leave it for about 5 mins and then hose it off. Then wet sand and buff, it will look brand new. Something I just remembered to also try. I had this gunky film that looked like the pictures you posted, on the bottom of my hull, acetone on a terry towel was the only thing that would take it off.

Ultimately, I think you will have to wet sand and compound. But enjoy the boat for the summer, stuff like that is a winter project

Finally tried Muriatic acid. That did the trick. Only needed slow and mild rubbing with a wet rag and it took all the hard junk off down to shiny gel coat. Did not try the Star brite as it s main ingredient is Oxcilic acid, and that would not touch this stuff. Nor would any of the TB cleaners.
The rag worked best for me as I did not want to spay anything that would get on the trailer and concrete driveway.
Spent yesterday putting new bunks on the lift and setting it up for the new SN. Ohhh and Skiing

I’ve got this nasty chemical stuff that only dealers can get and it amazes me what it can do. It strips anything in its path, you really need to be careful as it will take any sort of wax or coating off. I’ll try and find the name of it tomorrow
