    2006 SV211 Oil Leak

Need some advice for finding an oil leak on a 06 SV211.. Filter is dry. Is there a way to check the rear seal or oil pan without pulling the engine?

Where are you seeing oil at? Checked bottom of vdrive pan. Mine is still slightly weeping from there and needs to be fixed still.

You can hold a phone/camera down there and snap a bunch of pictures and see if there's any evidence of a leak. Alternatively, you can get an inspection camera that plugs into your phone and probe around down there with that. If you find the leak source, then you can move on to what needs to be done to fix it.

Get the bilge nice and dry after taking out of the water. Put some paper towels down there and look for spots on them.

I second homer12 in both statements. I would bet that it is the v-Drive. Fortunately it is a fairly simple fix. I fixed mine in less than 2 hours. Replaced leaky 2003 V-drive oil pan gasket this weekend
If it isn't the paper towels will work the best. It is really difficult to see a drip on a phone. I tried for almost two hours and just could see the detail that I needed to truly see if there was a leak. Though to Tom_H defense I have never tried the inspection camera.

I have it dried now. Is this something I can do with a water hose hooked to the flushing assembly, or should I put the boat in the water?

You don't need to run anything. If it is a big enough leak, just leave the paper towel a couple days. You should see a spot where the oil is dripping from on the paper towel and pinpoint the area. For the V-drive pan, just run your fingers along the bottom side of it. If it is leaking, they will have fresh oil on them and easy to tell.

The vdrive is separate from the oil, correct? I did that today and the bottom seemed to have a flim on it. I wiped it clean, and will recheck tomorrow. But, the oil is still leaking so it may be both..

Vdrive has oil in it. Has a pan on the bottom much like an engine oil pan that has a gasket that can leak. So it is not separate of oil.

But it's not directly connected to the engine oil. Basically asking if the engine oil is leaking, then it wouldn't affect the vdrive, or visa versa.

I got ya now DJ. Yes. If engine oil is getting low and you’re constantly adding then no, that’s not the v-drive.

My 06 leaked from the oil sending unit which was not fun to get to in my boat. Paper towel/ cardboard is the trick but remember that oil can travel down a hose before it drips so be sure and follow it closely.
