    06 oil leak

My oil filter when I first got the boat leaked at the top of the filter. I hand tightened it till I did the first oil change. Now it is leaking again at the top. I'm using a Motorcraft FL1-A filter. Anybody else having this problem? What filter are you using?

    RE: 06 oil leak

Yes! My new 06 211 had an oil leak from the top of the filter while i was on the lake. My boat still smells like oil when it warms up. I flushed and cleaned it with a bio degreaser but it still smells. Any hints how to get rid of the oil on the engine etc. or will it eventually go away.

      RE: 06 oil leak

When I did my first oil change on my '06 I noticed that the sealing surface on the remote oil filter bracket had thick paint on one side. It looked like they didn't mask it properly when they painted the it causing a thick line of paint to be on the surface that the filter gasket is supposed to seal against. I am surprised that mine didn't leak, but you may want to pull the filter and see if you have the same situation.

The FL1A is for a Ford engine. The Excaliber is a GM engine. You need to check and see if the FL1A is the right filter for your engine.

The Excalibur 330 is a GM (Chevy) engine, but the remote oil filter adapter that PCM uses does indeed take a Ford-style filter. The Motorcraft FL-1A is correct, and an AC-Delco PF-2 also fits, which is the one I use.

Update: Still have the oil leak after tightening a 1/4 turn more with strap wrench. We looked at my friends promo boat and his was doing the same. I guess I'll pull the filter off and look at the sealing surface for paint or anything else that shouldn't be there. My promo friend thought I was nuts till he looked at his.

You probably already know this trick, but it you pull a large heavy duty zip lock bag around the filter before you unscrew it, you will avoid any oil dripping on the carpet.

Happy to help out. Let me know if you find paint on the sealing surface of your oil filter bracket. If mine isn't the only one I'll let PCM know.

Try checking the two flange fittings that come into the remote oil filter housing. Mine was/is leaking from there and then drips onto the top of the filter. After retightening them, the leak slowed down, but is still there. 330 Excaliber.

Probably not the problem but be sure that the old oil filter O-ring gasket was not left behind before the new filter was installed, that will definitely create a leak. As Dave said the Ford filter is correct for the remote adapter on an Excal 330.

The old gasket was still attached to the old filter. I was just at the dealer and this is not new problem for the remote filter mount. He is faxing me some information later.

                            G-Man,

If this is a bulletin, can you post the service bulletin number? I will be asking my dealer to check the o-rings where the oil lines run in and out of the remote housing. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks.

                              Dave-
Check with Dan at Extreme as this sounds very familiar to the problem I had on my 04 210. Not to sure about the extra paint though.

PCM had issues with the oil filter metal attachment ring on the Excalibur not correctly sealing to the filter. It was either cracked or compromised in some way. They had to replace that part and it was a recall/warranty issue.

Seems like they would have learned from their mistakes in 04. (PCM)
