    Ballast Thru Hull

I'm looking at putting an automated ballast system into my super sport. Form what I've seen most people use 1" thru hulls. I looked on Nautique parts and they have nice ones with screens but they are only 3/4". Does anyone know where to get 1" with screens? I can find them without but thinking this might be a nice feature. Do the new Nautques have screens over the intakes? Maybe could order those.

Seems to me that a setup like that would clog much easier. Just a guess tho, I do not have screens on mine and have never had any issues but I do not know if the new Nautiques have screens on them or not, NautiqueJeff would know.

Are you sure about the 1"? My thru hulls are 3/4 but the hose is 1". I guess it depends on what kind of system you're doing.
I put a few jabsco pumps in and wakemakers told me that 3/4" thru hulls supplies way more water than the pumps can draw. There was absolutely no point in going bigger than that. I've got one thru hull and vent for each pump.
I've also got a super sport, and where I drilled my holes it was probably easier to have the more compact 3/4 vs 1 inch.
Never had a problem with no screens in 7 years.

So I was actually just thinking about the issue of the screen vs no screen. As we all know the ballast puppy's are pretty slow. I was wondering how much faster then would be if they did not have screens. It has to cause some restriction.

Weird that your 2014 does NOT have screens. My 2014 G21 does...

"Never had a problem with NO screens in seven years," sounds like an endorsement for me to get rid of my screens.

Wonder what other boat mfg do...

        Thoughts?

A ballast puppy or ultra ballast impeller pump is about the same flow rate at the sac, as a 1000-1200 GPH aerator, for what its worth.

I dont see an unclogged screen causing a restriction, considering its below the water line and effected by the displacement of the hull.

I also dont see a need for a screen, unless you boat on a trashy lake.

Did some digging and looks like Jono is right. On all the new Nautique's they are running the 3/4" screen thru hulls you can buy off nautiqie parts. I'll get some pictures when I can but checked a new gs and 210 and they were both the 3/4 screen models going to 1" hose.
