Maybe Check Your Shaft Coupling Bolts - Vibration

We have had a worsening vibration on our 2016 G23 w/ around 100 hours - initial thinking was perhaps a prop or shaft issue. Once the dealer got in and started looking, all of the shaft coupling bolts were loose - finger tight on all but 2. We are lucky that this only seems to have resulted in a wallowed out strut bearing that needs replaced - need to order the part so we are down for a bit longer. It could have been a lot worse if everything had let go.

I don't believe this shaft or coupling has ever been worked on, so the bolts loosened up pretty significantly over time or were perhaps not tightened to spec to begin with. Something pretty easy to check from time to time, depending on your model.

We have been thinking about this some more. 3 of the 5 bolts were rattle around loose, 1 was still most of the way on but loose and the fifth was loosening. I can't imagine the violent mess this could have made if 4 of the 5 bolts had worked completely out or broken. Stuff may have just sheared, but it also could have been pretty spectacular.

I thought I would revive this thread. Couple days ago I went from no vibration to slight vibration, which we thought was weeds, and i guess was one broken bolt. To 2nd broken bolt, more vibration.

Not a big deal. Just a $20 fix, and no other damage. But you should check these for tightness. The remaining 2 were not very tight either.

All you need is a 5/8 open end wrench and a 5/8 socket.

        P.s. I did find a quarter so it wasn't a total loss.

          Glad you caught it early.

It's crazy yours sheared off. Ours worked themselves loose - or at least that is what most of them did. Who knows, maybe it started with one breaking and it's bouncing around somewhere.

Thanks for reviving this thread. It reminds me to periodically check/tighten my coupler bolts.
