Need help with 502 Python motor

So I've had my boat for 3 seasons now and it seams like it has developed a lifter issue on the number 7 cylinder.

Noticeable ticking at idle but goes away almost completely past 1,100 rpms, then slowly comes back over time at rpm... think its a collapsed lifter. Compression check also has that cylinder down almost 30psi vs all others.

I would like to pull the motor before it gets much worse and send it somewhere for a rebuild and possibly a slight upgrade in cam/valvetrain. Does anyone have experience with reputable shops that would tackle this for me.

It would be wonderful if it was someone local to me (Massachusetts) but seeing how I'll be pulling the motor, I can ship it anywhere really.

The Python motors seem to be a rebranded 502 MAG MPI (GEN VI) that PCM just modified slightly for CC to put in their boats... so cam/valvetrain upgrades for the 502 MPI should be compatible with the Python. Contacted Hardin-marine about this and they would not even speculate as to the compatibility. Contacted PCM (supplier of the motor to CC) and asked for any and all information regarding the 502 Python engine and they refused to provide a single bit of info. Told me to contact a local dealer.

Would've been nice to just get cam specs, then I could at least order parts.

I was told that PCM has this motor tuned very rich, so I think I can get away with a slightly more aggressive cam. Apparently, nobody will tune this motor so the stock tune must remain.

Any suggestions, information, personal experience or opinions are welcome and appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Shea

No... nobody has offered suggestions and I'm up in the air on what to do.

I've only taken my boat out on the water once in the past month.

If you are doing major mods, like a cam swap, there is no reason to stick with the original ecm. If you find another brand of ecm that can be custom tuned, why not switch?

have you tried calling these people? https://obd2allinone.com/ramjettuning.asp. They claim they can tune MEFI 4A which I think you have on your boat. Really, PCM only took a GM engine and added their raw water pump and accessories. I doubt they had a custom “PCM” fuel and spark map. I suspect they relied on GM for that engineering.

Now that's what I was looking for!

I'll call them up and see if they can do remote tuning, if so... she's getting built real nice.

Head work, cam and full valve train. Most people who upgrade the 502 MPI motors to 500 EFI specs are seeing well over 500 horsepower on a dyno.

Anyone know the horsepower limit of the drive?

If all goes well on the heads/cam upgrade and I have the ability to tune unlimited... seriously considering a Whipple supercharger in the future and really getting stupid.

You should give Texas speed and performance a call. They went above and behind when my 08 5.3 in my truck collapsed an AFM lifter. Needless to say it is now a full v8 with no active fuel management or displacement on demand and runs better than ever with better mpg than stock.

I like all of this. All though a whipple might be silly as I think at some point you will outrun the hull.

Truth be told, all the horsepower on the planet wont help a single bit, as I'm limited now by the prop... largest diameter I can go is 14"

If I can gain 800 to 1000 more rpm out of a upgraded 502, than I can pick up more speed on the topend. I currently have plenty of power just out of rpm due to the stock limiter.

Tried 3 different props and the ACME prop currently installed gives me a monster holeshot and about 52 mph at 5,150 rpm ... gps verified.

A whipple would be just for bling factor really. Has anyone see a whipple on a nautique?

There was a 211 on eBay for a while with a carbed rat motor with two stainless exhausts right about water line.
