    97 GT40 351 smokes

I started up my 97 Sport Nautique this summer and noticed that it seems to smoke more than it used to. I get blue/white smoke and a nice sheen on the water behind my boat if I let it idle for a while. It seems to run fine and has no loss of power or no missing. I just changed the plugs wires dist cap and rotor and changed the oil. I put 10w30 mobile 1 in and I think I am going to change it again to 20w50 and a motorcraft filter. I noticed the oil pressure runs at 40psi until it warms up then it drops to 20psi at idle but goes back up to 40psi when I run it at speed. Any ideas or am I being too overly cautious??

I went out and ran it some more today and it appears to be missing at idle. It vibrates/shakes slightly when idling or cruising at idle but it smooths out when the boat is brought up to speed.

The GT40 needs 40 weight oil with zinc (flat tappet engine). Valvoline racing VR1 is what a lot of people recommend. Some of the 15/40 diesel oils also contain the necessary zinc additive and might work better for cold starts. You definitely need a heavier oil though.
