    Manifold Gasket

So my starboard manifold seems to be running about 10 degrees hotter than the port side. I figured I might still have some pieces of impeller in there. Ordered the new gaskets and decide to open it up yesterday . No obvious chunks, grime flakes etc. One thing I noticed when I took it off was that the old gasket was cover one of the holes. It had gunk built up behind it when it was removed. I cleaned it all out and was ready to put the new gasket on. ThenI noticed the new one was the same as the old one.......it was going to block one of the holes. Could this be my flow problem and the temp difference? Should I tweak new gasket and put another hole in it? Or is it supposed to be this way for pressure?

Did some more thread digging.....sounds like most people have a difference in temp.....so I think I am going to live with it. Putting back together today and found this thread comment pertaining to the gasket.

"Removed the port riser and confirmed the gasket was installed with aft port blocked by the gasket. Riser does not show abnormal signs of corrosion. Put on another new gasket."

AFT port blocked.......this sounds like what I am talking about? NO? Sounds like it might supposed to be blocked.

      Thoughts?

Do some more research. One port is blocked off to encourage proper water circulation in riser. Don't modify. i believe the water exiting the tstat flows to least resistance and hot water tends to favor one side of engine. I wouldn't worry about 10 degree difference. Clean your gasket surfaces good, get new riser bolts, and torque properly on install.

6 degrees difference.........so it improved a little and is more equal cooling. Running about 155 on port side and 160-162 on starboard...and it sounds like form other people, that they usually are not the same temp...always a little variation. I do have to say...after I put a compressor hose in there, a lot of junk came out....not sure if its normal, but flakes, rust, gunk. All clean now.

you should be able to hold them in your hands no problem! Now that I have cleaned mine out.....its running at 150.....and I have no problem holding my hands on the manifold tops.....I would also fry your v-drive in and out.....see how they feel. Also.....best tool purchased this year.....heat reading gun for $70 at napa. It will tell you a ton....and you will use it all the time in the future. Good luck
