Thanks j2nh. I was just debating this morning to look at a 1998 with 860 hours that needs some cosmetic work (observer seat cushion is trashed) and swim platform needs sanding and refinishing, but it has the GT40 in it and could be had for $11.5k. Is it worth it to get that one or pay $2,500 more for the pristine '97 that needs nothing but has the smaller HP engine. What would you do and which would be most appealing when if/when I go to resale it some day?

Go with the '97. It has been (most likely) cared for better than the '98. You can see the issues with 98 now, but will probably uncover more later.
Doubt you will notice any power performance between the two engines. Drive the boats before deciding.
