no reverse

i was being pulled today, and after taking a crash a buddy of mine turned around to come pick me up. as he approached, he hit reverse, and the dreaded sound of the engine accelerating was heard. i first assumed that the driveshaft had somehow come detached, but upon further inspection, i found that it was fine and the foward gear worked without a problem. so now i'm missing reverse.

any suggestions on what to check. please tell me that it is possible, that there is a simple problem with an easy/cheap fix.

I would check the adjustment on the cable. Open the engine hatch put the boat in reverse and see how far the lever travels. There is a good chance it just isn't going far enough

Do you have any transmission fluid in the bilge. My 92 did the exact same thing when the rear seal went out on the Transmission. Also, check the fluid level to be certain it is ok.

Most likely an internal problem..reverse clutch ring broken or similiar.

david, with further research i think u've hit it on the head. i could tell that it wasn't the cable on the lake. and i'm full on fluid. so it is lookin like i'll be tearin into her pretty soon. thanks for all the help
