    Powder coating tower, any advice?

    Hi,

Buying an '04 SANTE and the tower could use a powder coat. Has anyone done this? Anything I should consider? Cost etc. Any advice helpful.

    Thank you!

I assume you're farming it out to a local powder-coat shop, correct?

Before you take it there, get it to someone who can blast it with walnut shells or beads to remove the old paint. From there, any good powder coat shop should be able to make it look new.

Just had mine done last week. I had it media blasted and the same guy who media blasted it powder coated it. He did a coat of primer first and then sanded to ensure a silky smooth finish. Turned out great! I would recommend a satin finish over a gloss if youÂ’re still debating. Here is mine and itÂ’s satin.

      This is blasted

      This is after primer

      This is after powder coat

Badass, thank you! How much did that set you back if I may ask?

Also has anyone gone with a flat finish? Just curious. Satin looks awesome though. Definitely no gloss

It’s funny because the powder coat guy really tried to convince me to do gloss. After he was done he told me “Man as much as I disagreed with satin, I’m glad you picked it. This turned out way better than I was expecting”.
As far as cost goes. It’s hard to tell what the tower alone would have cost. I was right at $1,000 but I had him do a lot of stuff. I got my tower, windshield frame, platform brackets, 4 flight clips, and some other miscellaneous small stuff done. Everything had to be blasted first but the tower was the only item that got primed. I am guessing tower alone would have been 500ish. He really didn’t like doing my windshield frame. He said he struggled with it the most.

Brit, thanks for posting up pictures. Really gets me amped to get out on the boat and ride! I love having an OG 210 and especially seeing these custom improvements. These boats have some of the best 'bones' out there to work with and feels good to see people spending the money on them. Powder coating towers, sea-dek, ballast, etc. It's so easy to spend a ton of money, but I think the fact that people are doing it represents the value these boats still carry. I'm hoping this generation continues to garner the $20K+ price range for years to come.

                  Hi,

Do you know how many pounds of powder it took to get it done? I'm almost settled on the color but now have to source it.

No I don’t know how much. The guy who did it did a lot more than just the tower for me.
