    Install Chromax decals

Any tips or suggestions when installing chromax decals? Have to replace the “Super Air Nautique “ decal on my 210.

    Thanks!

Last year, I had to replace a few letters that were delaminating. If you do not have to replace the whole thing, you can just order the words that have the letters you need. I was pretty nervous about getting them on straight, but now I cannot even tell you which ones I replaced...

You can carefully remove the old letters with a putty knife and a heat gun. Acetone will help remove the remaining adhesive. I buffed the area where the letters were and used some more acetone to clean and degrease the area. I then used some blue tape across the top of the remaining letters and also along the bottom of the letters as a guide. Peel away a bit of the backing along the top of the letter, line it up and gently stick the top in place. Check for proper alignment and spacing and then peel away the remaining backer and press it down.

I did not have to replace the whole thing, but if you do, I would suggest enlisting the assistance of a friend. Tape a line at each end and above the letters before removing them, allowing enough room to buff and clean the area and provide a guide for your final tape line that will mark the top placement of the decals. Not quite sure how I would tackle it from there - maybe work from one end to the other?

    Good Luck!

I did something very similar. I used a paint stir stick. I taped it to the hull tight up against the bottom of the existing letters. This gave me a nice "shelf" to set the new letter on to establish that bottom line. The only thing left was to ensure it was in the right spot left-right and and the right angle. I rigged up some spacers with pieces of cardboard to do that.

Unfortunately the dealer I took to do gel coat work removed all the decals on one side! I asked to remove two letters but now all letters and then badge is gone. I can slightly see where the letters were due to fading. I think I’m going to try to work in small order. Separating the letters and maybe laying 3 letters at a time.
