Gang,
When I ordered my 2019 SANTE 230 I optioned the Paddle Wheel for River Mode. I live on a lake that does have some current from time to time and I wanted a better way to deal with it. On my previous boat, we usually just lived with the fact that the surf wake would be different going up the river vs down. I did use the GPS-based River Mode in the LINC a few times and it worked reasonably well once you had the river speed set correctly. It was a manual effort and you had to press the button when you turned around and went back upstream. Not horrible, but something all your drivers have to remember to do.
On the 2019 Nautique offered a paddle wheel to set this for you. It was only $101 and that made it one of the least expensive options I picked. It's even less than the walk-through Air Dam.
With this option, you can pick how you want the speed to be controlled. The default is GPS. When you pick Paddle Wheel, the River Mode options for Speed Offset and Direction are disabled. Makes sense. The paddle wheel is going to sort all of that out for you.
Anyway, we finally had a good current running and I was able to thoroughly test this option. In short, it works. And it works quite well. I could tell the boat was running faster going downstream but the wake felt and looked the same. Now the current here isn't much. Probably less than 2 miles per hour at best. I can't say how it would behave in a heavy current. There has to be some limit to it's adjustment range but I do not know what that is.
The paddle wheel itself is the same as the one for Perfect Pass. Spare paddle wheels, axles and o-rings are available in a kit from Nautiqueparts. The paddle wheel is right beside the drain plug so it's accessed from the hatch. With the boat on a lift or trailer, you open the hatch and unscrew the retaining ring. The entire transducer comes out and replacing the wheel, axle and o-rings is simple. Just make sure you get it facing the right way.
