We are considering a newer model (2015-2018) G23 but want a heads up on any mechanical issues that are common. We had a different brand wakesurf boat and the drive shaft snapped and we found out later that is a fairly common occurrence due to a design flaw of making the drive shaft more narrow towards the bottom. Any info would be great. Huge purchase, just want to do some home work.

Personally, I wouldn't get a '15, as the hull changed slightly to fix a spray issue and there were some other upgrades to '16. I have a '16 and it is a great boat. '17 and '18 saw some feature upgrades as well, so it depends on what deal you find.
The non-coastal edition boats from those years all have 5 year warranty's. BUT... this can only be transferred to the second owner - and there is a fee of around $800 to do so. The third owner and beyond can not get warranty coverage.
There have been some shaft issues - but it seems sporadic. No shaft issues for us, other than the bolts fastening it to the transmission working loose.
2016 - 2017 have JL audio systems, with a Polk head unit. This head unit is finicky and buggy, but you learn to live with it. The 2018 G23 went to a JL head unit and it seems way more solid.
For me personally, I think the 2018 is the best G. The big power tower bases on the 2019 turn me off. If I needed a power tower I might think differently, but I have never once put my tower down.

Each year from 2016+ saw upgrades that can be beneficial. For example, the Z5 bimini on the 2016 is ultra low, and 2017 had better bimini options. Newer years (2018?) saw the addition of a taller tower, as well as the marriage saver option (steering assist), and every person I have met that has one loves it. 2018 would be my suggestion for pre-owned.2019 SAN G23 | 2016 SAN G23 | 2013 Wakesetter 23 LSV | 2008 Wakesetter 23 LSV | 2003 Wakesetter 23 LSV | 2000 Wakesetter VLX | 1998 Sanger V210 | 1994 Magic Sceptor 28 | 1985 Cole TR2 | Too many PWC to count!
